THE ESSENTSIA GUIDE TO FRAGRANCES
ACCORD – a harmony of usually 6-10 fragrant notes that create a new, complex, and recognizable scent.
COLOGNE – named after the French city of Cologne, where a noted perfume was produced in the 18th century, a cologne is a type of fragrance that has a relatively low concentration (2-4% oils), and can be reapplied every few hours. While all ESSENTSIA fragrances are crafted with high-end care in the USA, we honor the French contribution to the art of fragrances with some of our fragrance names.
PERFUME – from the Latin per fumum, meaning through smoke, refers to the use of fragrances in rituals, often with burning of incense. Perfumes came to be also used for hygiene and beauty. Perfumes usually have a higher concentration of oils than colognes and typically last a bit longer.
TOP NOTES – these are the first scents that are most noticeable immediately after applying the fragrance.
HEART NOTES – these notes become more prominent as the top notes fade, providing the primary essence of the fragrance.
BASE NOTES – this is the final layer of the fragrance, noticeable at application, but most prominent after top and middle notes have faded. The base notes become the depth of the fragrance, and the longest lasting scents.
EMULSIFIERS – emulsifers are often used in fragrances to blend oils and alcohol. ESSENTSIA does not use any emulsifiers whatsoever, so the natural oils and alcohol in Essentsia fragrances can separate and settle between uses. This is why we highly recommend shaking your ESSENTSIA fragrance well before each application.
ARTIFICIAL INGREDIENTS – ESSENTSIA fragrances have no artificial ingredients, so there is no need to catalog them in the ESSENTSIA guide to fragrances!
NATURAL INGREDIENTS – All Essentsia fragrances include only filtered water for premium balance, American natural grain spirits, and Essentsia's signature blends of essential oils. That's it.
